How to Name a Bar?

If you want to open your own bar but do not know how to name it, the information below will help you choose the best option. In this article, you can read about the main groups of such names and familiarize yourself with the numerous examples of interesting and catchy names of already existing bars in the USA.

How to name a bar?

First of all, it should be noticed that these names are not easy to classify. This is due to the fact that they need to be as catchy and memorable as it is possible, and this is an owner’s top priority. In other words, they do not have to be thematic, that is they do not have to cause direct associations with the corresponding sphere. Nevertheless, the names of bars still can be divided into the certain groups, each of which is described below.

  1. Simple and one-word names. Such names are extremely popular among the bar owners. Usually, they consist of one original word or a word + the keywords, so-called “makers”, for instance, ‘bar’, ‘lounge’, ‘club’, ‘room’, ‘saloon’, and ‘tavern’. You can use completely different words, noun or adjectives, direct or original ones. The biggest advantage of this group is that such names sound very laconic and can be easily remembered. Do not hold back your imagination – you can use literally any word, for instance, eagle, ship, lash, district, genesis, etc.
  2. Names that include numbers. They are also very short, as the business owners usually choose the number and add one word, for instance, 1020 Bar, 55 Bar, Room 31, Spire 73.
  3. “Someone’s” Bars. First name or first name + last name may be also used in naming. This method is very simple yet quite effective. By using it, you can get such names as Hank’s Bar, Ozziz’s, Bernadette’s, Lola’s, etc.
  4. Names associated with alcohol. ‘Whiskey’, ‘Wine’, ‘Liquor’, ‘Cognac’, etc, may also be used as the keywords, for example, Cognac Room, Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum bar, Flight Wine Bar and so forth.
  5. Other names. Short or long, exotic or classic, English or Spanish, these names are very diverse and creative. Check the examples in the tables, and maybe they will inspire you to create something truly original.
